With her inheritant love for old skool soul music such as the likes of Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston, combining that with a love for R&B queens Mary J. Blige and Faith Evans, Donna King has instinctually created her own recognizable identity as a R&B-Soul singer-songwriter herself.
After a brief hiatus from the music scene, this Mississauga, ON native is glad to be back to share with the world her experiences of love and loss and the emotional rollercoaster that we all can relate to. Blessed with the vocal tone and power of widely known artist Fantasia with shimmers of K Michelle, Donna delivers her songs story adventures and fantasies candidly and emotionally as though they were taken out of page of Jill Scott’s journal. She’s guilty of being an old-fashioned romantic with a timeless sound and a keen sense of emotion that will be sure to give her listeners the ability to tap into their own nostalgic moments of love. A true gem in the Canadian R&B landscape, Donna King is no stranger to the stage. At just 13 years old, she was featured on “YTV Vocal Spotlight” making it to the semi-finals, emerging as one of the stars of the show and new talent to watch. At the age of 16, Donna was chosen to perform at the internationally known “Show Time at the Apollo” in Harlem, New York. Performing “Get Here” by Oleta Adams, she incontestably captured the audience at the amateur night contest. Stopping at nothing, Donna traveled back to the U.S again for the “New York International Music Festival” (NYIMF) where she won Best International Artist and Best R&B Female Artist.
