Where were you at in your music career when you had your first child? Was there much discussion about how that life choice would affect your career within the music/entertainment industry?

When I had my first child, I wasn't even working in the industry. I entered the industry at the end of my maternity leave. It was an exciting time, but also deeply overwhelming as I navigated a new job in a different industry, as well as motherhood during a pandemic (this was early 2021)!

As a working parent in the music industry, what are some of the biggest challenges you face or have faced?

The biggest challenge for me is managing the logistics of work and a child. My job regularly requires me to attend events an shows—a definite perk, in my opinion—but balancing late nights and odd hours while making sure that I spend quality time with my child has been tough at times.

What is one change (big or small) within the industry that could make a positive impact for working parents?

I think that more flexibility within office hours/hybrid work environments would greatly benefit not only working parents, but everyone. The positive impact of flexibility is time—time to rest and reset after a full week of festival events, time to work at your own pace and ensure deadlines are being met, and time to manage life outside of work.

How do you find support and community with other working parents in or out of the music industry?

I have been very fortunate in my career in the music industry thus far to work closely with other parents. We have leaned on each other as we share many of the same struggles when it comes to balancing work and parenting.

Can you shout out another music mama doing great things?

There are so many, so this is difficult to limit to just one, but I'd like to shout out Andrea Guernsey. She gives so much care and attention to all of the artist projects she manages.
