Where were you at in your music career when you had your first child? Was there much discussion about how that life choice would affect your career within the music/entertainment industry?

I felt like my music career was just starting to get busy and take flight when I found out I was pregnant. I also just bought a music studio when I found out I was pregnant - so it was quite unexpected, but welcomed with love regardless! There wasn't a lot of discussion how it would affect my career, because I just assumed if we did have a kid, she would come on tour with us. I perform with my partner. She's 2 now, and she does come on tour with us. She also had her first steps at the studio.

As a working parent in the music industry, what are some of the biggest challenges you face or have faced?

Biggest challenges is finding childcare while performing with your partner. We often have to bring grandma along for the ride.

What is one change (big or small) within the industry that could make a positive impact for working parents?

I feel one change that would be helpful is offering childcare at music festivals or shows to artists. Like something included in the rider - a one hour nanny for show time...

How do you find support and community with other working parents in or out of the music industry?

Most of our friends who have children, at least one parent is NOT in the music industry. With us its tough because both of us are.

What’s one specific example of an organization/venue/company doing something great to help support working parents?

I'm honestly not sure.

What could a music event (festival, conference, etc.), do or provide to make it easier for you to participate?

Have child minding services available to performing artists - even if it's not an all ages festival.

Can you shout out another music mama doing great things?

Narai Dawn.
