  • Submission Type: Written
  • Written Submission - What makes this person / company a great fit?: Miss Emily has spent her career working tirelessly to address issues that women and vulnerable sector individuals face both within the music industry and within their community. For more than 20 years, she has done this independently by teaming with grassroots, community organizations or creating her own initiatives. In 2018 she started Music Industry Kingston Emergency Support (M.I.K.E.S.) raising and distributing money to independent artists in need of health or medical care. Last year she worked with Dawn House and Interval House in Kingston - shelters for women fleeing domestic violence - to donate dozens of tickets to her self-produced Christmas show so that women and children from the shelters could have a momentary holiday reprieve.
Most recently, her song "The Medicine" - written about a young Peterborough area woman who lost her life to addiction - has re-focused attention on the growing number of women who have succumbed to this disease and the last effect on their families.
In addition, for the last 10 years, Miss Emily has donated more than 500 hours of her time to Light of Day of Canada, a music based charity that raises money for Parkinson's research and support.
  • Written Submission - How do you know the person / company: I initially worked with Miss Emily through Light of Day Canada in Kingston - raising money for Parkinson's research and support. After experiencing her dedication to this cause and so many others, I agreed to become Miss Emily's manager.
  • Written Submission - How would this Honour benefit the nominee?: Honouring Miss Emily through Women in Music Canada would draw a significant level of attention to her unparalleled talent as a singer and songwriter. For 20 years Miss Emily has toured and recorded as a fully independent artist. She has borne the costs of recording and touring on her own. An houour like this would broaden her ability to tour, expand her fan base, and ultimately shine a brighter light on the charities and causes she so passionately supports.
