  • Submission Type: Written
  • Written Submission - What makes this person / company a great fit?: Emma Whale is a fantastic choice to be nominated for Excellence in Sound Production! This year, Emma was recognized by Music Publishers Canada, and selected as part of the 2025 cohort for the Women in the Studio National Accelerator. Since beginning her career at Catherine North Studios in Hamilton, Ontario in 2021, Emma has worked tirelessly to produce great work, as well as a safe studio environment for women and other gender minorities.

Emma's production credits are diverse. This year, releases include a pop country record by Dani ("My Old Guitar"), two pop records by Jesse Adams ("Love You Like I Do," and "Breakup Song"), an indie folk/rock record by Sarah Bellstedt ("Bad at Sleeping"), and a Folklore-inspired acoustic pop record by Caitlin Miller ("You"). Another folk record by Sarah Bellstedt is anticipated to release during the first week of December, 2025, titled "Missed Your Flight."

This year, Emma was chosen to be a mentor for the first year of the Equalizer Mentor Program. Based in Kitchener, the program matches more established producers and engineers with mentees who are newer to the industry. This program is designed to create learning opportunities for gender minorities in the music industry, and all mentors and mentees are either women, non-binary, transgender, or other gender minorities.

Emma is consistently looking for opportunities to be a voice for gender diverse individuals in the music industry, and is an outspoken supporter for safer and more inclusive studio spaces.
  • Written Submission - How would this Honour benefit the nominee?: Emma's career is trending upwards. This year, being included in the 2025 Women in the Studio cohort has proven an invaluable springboard, connecting her with countless industry professionals, and new opportunities. She is consistently being approached by artists in her community in search of her production abilities, with upcoming projects planned with Jesse Adams, Nina Geleynse, Piper & Carson, and more. But despite all this momentum, a Women in Music nomination would be extremely valuable to her visibility in the music industry! Recognition at this level would increase her visibility to artists who may want to work with a female producer, but don't know where to find them. Not only this, but Emma is searching for opportunities to work with artists outside of Ontario's GTA, and this would be a fantastic way to reach them. This honour would also increase her visibility to other industry professionals, at a time where she's in search of more connections, and planning how to build her team in the future.
